HAUNTEDHOTSAUCE.COM How I made the boarded up window effect By: Victor "The Undertaker" Ives Materials: 4' x 8' x 1/2" sheet of styrofoam light grey exterior paint dk. grey exterior paint Top of a large margarine container or other similar plastic container black paint assorted paintbrushes push pins finishing nails • The boarded window effect I made with a 4'x8' sheet of thin styrofoam approximately 1/2" thick. • Take your 4'x 8'x 1/2" styrofoam sheet and cut it into board-sized strips, making the ends look jagged. • Cover them with a coat of exterior light grey paint. Let it dry. • Use the top of a large plastic margarine container and cut it in half to resemble a half-moon. • Cut teeth into the flat side of the moon. • Cover a "board" with a coat of dark grey paint and while the dark grey paint was still wet, comb it back and forth lengthwise with the margarine top to simulate wood grain. • When that is dry, add a few knot holes with the dk. grey paint. • I had little luck gluing the boards together so I ended up actually nailing the horizontal boards to my windows with finishing nails. (I haven't tried this yet but you may be able to hang them with double sided tape or velcro tape.) • The vertical pieces I hung in place by pressing straight pins through the styrofoam angled down. • With some black paint and the back of a small paintbrush, I added some visible "nails" to the areas where there would actually be nails holding the vertical pieces to the horizontal pieces.
